in a rut

Unread postby MOOKA916 » Sat Mar 25, 2006 8:06 pm

so the past 6 meets i've jumped the same height- and today i went down 6".... in practice i feel fine, and my jumps seem right. i don't really have a coach and i'm getting frustrated. i'm not sure what i'm doing wrong and i can't find anyone able to help.

today i stalled out a few times, and the rest of the time i just couldn't seem to get all the way up.

i think maybe i just have some kind of mental block that's keeping my from jumping the way i should. any advice?

thanks

Do you practice with a bar? I know a bunch of vaulters who have a mental thing with a bar - can't turn or get stuck staring at it.

I think i may have this same problem. But i am confused at what you are suggesting here. Do u think if someone has this problem, they should or shouldn't practice with a bar up more often? I have also been at the same height, even lower, for a while now, and i haven't yet had a bar up in practice, so that might be my problem. Any related input? Thanks

practice with the bar up so that you can get used to it

that way, at meets, there really won't be anything different than at practices

additionally, if you catch yourself staring at the bar in practice, try putting a bungee up a few feet above the bar and try to vault over the bungee

Yeah, but still try not to look at the Bungee. I have the problem - set it at 12-13', and then kick it...except I still look at it the entire time.
