For Altius..."Beginners to Bubka"

Unread postby cdmilton » Tue Feb 28, 2006 10:07 am

This was sent to me over email along with the following images from Alan aka Altius.
altius wrote:"Debates continue to rage on this great forum about almost every element of technique in the pole vault. However it is interesting to note that there are coaches and athletes who apply the basic principles of the Petrov/Bubka model with great success. Take for example the four shots of 15 year old Vicky Parnov (from Perth in OZ) which show her clearing 4.00m from an eight step run up in the Victorian - OZ Championships. Note the take off point, the body angle at take off, her position covering the pole and the resultant hip drive into the vertical position. Three weeks earlier Vicky cleared 4.30 m in the OZ Nationals from her full run up.

Hopefully I will soon be able to get the video clip to Chris so that can be posted - if there is any interest.

Vicky is coached by her father Alex - himself a 5.82 m vaulter back in 1982. Her mother was a finalist in the sprint hurdles at the WJs in Sudbury in 1988. One grandmother was an Olympic silver medallist - not sure when. Vicky has three younger sisters - Liz is already setting world age records - so i suspect you will be hearing o lot about the Parnovs in the future.

Alex is one of the few people to have coached two 6.00 metre vaulters having helped Dimitri Markov to 6.05 in 2001 and Paul Burgess to 6.00 last year. He also introduced Tatiana Grigorieva to the vault back in 1997.

Readers may also be interested to learn that I have had video from Mike Larwyk in Pennsylvania??? -sorry Mike - which suggests that he is also doing a pretty good job of matching the model. I would be interested to learn of other coaches and athletes who are going down this path with success. "

I have been trying to get it to CD MIlton to post but I am technologically challenged and have not been able to do it yet - will keep trying.

I think that's the problem. He can't even get it sent to me. It must be too big to send out because I have an unlimited size email account.
