Ring vaulting, cool stuff!

Unread postby souleman » Wed May 04, 2005 11:47 pm

I just got back from Kevin Hansons' over in St. Cloud, MN and I spent the night "ring vaulting". How cool! As most of you know, my legs have been killing me from Sundays vaulting session, but I didn't want to wait till next Sunday to do something "vaulty". So after work I hopped on the bike (Harley) and rode the 70 miles over to his place and worked all evening on a set of rings that dump out over the pit. I would jump off a step and swing inverted till the end off the swing and then I'd (try) kick up and out and turn and land on my back. I really don't know how I did but it felt cool and I was able to work on inverted timing, kick up, and turn over. All with out one bit of pounding on my legs. Very cool, very cool indeed. If and when I ever start coaching that is one thing I will definitely implement in my regimen. Later.....Mike

I love ring vaulting too! We have a platform at my school that we jump off of (holding gymnastics rings) before doing the swing, invert, turn, and going over a bungee before landing on the pits. It feels so smooth and quick compared to rope vaulting/swinging, and you really do feel everything that you are doing wrong. My coach has us strapped into a harness, so he can kind of control us if anything goes wrong and feel where there are increases/decreases in pressure/weight. It's great!!! :D
