Can't get in....

Unread postby sdvaulter06 » Mon Apr 25, 2005 10:25 pm

Hello! I am about a 13' vaulter and I've been resently (today lol) been having problems getting in! I did have a lack of speed at practice and I could feel that! I would still go up, but I would have to bail out because I wasn't getting in deep enough and would come down on the pit if I didn't! What are some other factors that could have been hindering my ability to get in? At meets I've been having my standards at 16" or 15.5"! I weigh 140 lbs and I'm vaulting on a 13'6" 145 and a 14' 145! I accually would like to get a 150, but that is another topic! THanks a lot! Lance
PM me if you know of any vaults around the Midwest!

could be a number of things....

1. grips too high
2. not running\jumping "through" the take off
3. late plant
4. "bad" plant
5. not moving arms at takeoff ( my personal philosophy, some may not agree with it, but i think moving\rowing the arms RIGHT at takeoff roles the pole in)

any one of these could be the reason why you're not getting in, those are just a few off the top of my head. Hope this helps :D

p.s.- where are you in south dakota? i was born in Yankton!!! :)

Also worth noting is that you should at least be moving upward off of your takeoff foot when the pole hits the back of the box instead of downward onto it. If you are doing the latter, it can cause you to stall out at the top. You could also be shortening your swing. Your takeoff also needs to be upspringing.

if you were struggling to get in on just one day don't worry about it.... we all have bad days.... as for your standards i suggest you push them all the way back (32") and train with them there on your small pole.... and when your blowing through the bar then move up to your bigger pole.... 15" is very close, but by training farther back you will develop a more consistant jump and will actually be able to get on bigger poles in the end, and hence jump higher. good luck, hope this all made sense and helps
