How do you find the soft side of the pole?

I have found that the easiest way to find the soft side is hold at the very top of the pole and drop you hand down to your side and have a very loose grip. The soft side will fall to the bottom because that's where gravity will take it. Or you could always look down the the length of the pole and you can see where it has been pre-bent; that would be the soft side.

when youre on the runway let the pole rest in youre hand and it will roll and you'll find the soft side
