Tommy starting at 17 ft at worlds?
Im sure this is what hes going to start at right? 17ft is rare in hs, but how rare is it to start at 17ft in high school, has anyone else done this and actually made it? Thats crazy! By the way I bet theres not a whole lot of collegians that start much higher than him.... what am i saying theres not many that jump higher than him, scratch that.

ok
well, im pretty sure hes started at 17' before hasnt he? It may sound crazy, but hes actually starting over a foot below his pr, which many people do.(ex. pr 12 start at 11'...)most people jus dunt have a pr of 18-3!, so they wudnt be starting at 17'....

KYLE ELLIS wrote:yeah hes done it alot. Im just saying I think when Eshbach set his record he started in the high 15s or low 16s? Im askin if any othe highschooler has done that before? Dial, Richards, Duplantis, Manson, Jenkins?
If i remember correctly, Eshbach and his teamate Jon Henly (17'3") both started at 15'0". I guess really you can never start to low.

They always started low. There Coach, coach hester has all of his vaulters start low. I was at our USATF association meet yesterday and he had his vaulters there, he is coaching around the Lake Livingston area now, no longer at Orangefield. The best one jumped 14' and opened at 11'. Some of the 12' jumpers opened at 8'6".

Eshbach's progression at State was:
15'0"-o 15'6"-o 16'0"-o 16'3"-o 16'6"-o 16'9"-o 17'0"-o 17'3"-o 17'6"-o 17'10"-o 18'00"-xo 18'02.25"-o 18'06"-xxx
All the Orangefield guys came in low. One of their first guys over 16', used to come in at 12'. I guess when you're taking 45 jumps a day, 5 days a week in practice, 15-20 jumps in a meet isn't a big deal.
