TRACK AND FIELD
• Phoenix Desert Vista freshman Shaylah Simpson set a state freshman pole vault mark Saturday at the Meet of Champions at Glendale Sandra Day O’Connor High. Simpson and Mesa Mountain View’s Cara Carpenter both cleared 12 feet, with Carpenter winning on fewer misses.

Simpson’s mark is also the top mark by a freshman in the nation this season.
