It could've been her knee, the edge of her shorts or even a shoelace. Westerville Central High School senior Amara Whaley wasn't sure what part of her clipped the bar on her final attempt to clear 11 feet, 8 inches in the pole vault at the Division I state track and field meet last Saturday at Ohio State.
As a result, Whaley had to settle for fourth (11-4), behind champion Olivia Bergesen of Mason (12-0). Alex Wasik of Medina and Morgan Estes of Green both cleared 11-8 to tie for second.
