I just saw that when Jeff Hartwig (Arguably the best american Vaulter, American record holder) was in high school he started with a PR of 9'6" as a freshman and 14'6" as a senior. Im not saying thats bad at all but it showes you how far you can go if you can only get 9'6" so far.[/b]

Bingo!

You are correct, sir!

Bear in mind that Francis Howell has a bunch of young ladies that regularly go that high now. What a difference a coach and some hard work can accomplish.

Jeff also jumped a respectable, but not World Class, 17' 8.5" in college. He new he could do better so he never quit after he finished at ASU. Little by little over the years he kept inching his way up until he was jumping another 2ft higher. Now he has an incredible 91 meets that he has jumped over 19ft. This year he should go over 100.

Kellie Suttle also went to Francis Howell, not sure how high she jumped though. I go to Francis Howell North (where Hartwig WOULD have gone if it had been a high school then...) and I can vouch for vaultdad here, though I don't think the numbers are quite that high. :) I don't really know all that much about how Howell's and Howell Central's vaulters are doing though.

Kellie didn't jump in highschool or college for that matter. She picked it up her senior year at Astate before it was a college event. She was a long and triple jumper from what I remember. I think she went to the same Juco as Jeff did also. LB

1. I knew that you went to FHN after you described your pit.

2. As for the height numbers . . . Shhh!, I was trying to frighten all your area opponents. :P What I really meant was I see a lot of the ladies in the 10-12" range now and climbing. But, having said that, your corner of the world has produced some really great male AND female vaulters!

It just shows you how well someone could deduce the correct answer utilizing a detectives keen mind, a sharpened sense of information gathering , and after years of study an IQ pretty well over 68 by now. . .

OR

It could be that it was because I read the posts all the time and have worked on your field for the last two years as the PV Ref for the AAU/USATF meets. ;) :P

By the way, has the grass come back in?

that whole grass thing i found kinda funny....they kept saying they were resodding with TOUGHER grass....but it got torn up worse than the old stuff!!! let me tell ya, it wasn't fun marching on that after it had been shredded by the football players....yes, i'm a marching band geek :D...at least we weren't BAREFOOT this year...(i'm in the colorguard, so we don't always wear shoes...last year (2002) we were barefoot...not fun in some of the competitions when its 30 DEGREES OUTSIDE!!! walking in the streets around the EJ Dome ain't a whole lot of fun either...)
