Kossuth frosh sets mark


One little adjustment brought Kossuth freshman pole vaulter Tatum Lewis not only gold, but a state record.


Lewis' vault of 9 feet shattered the 3A record of 7-6 set by Charleston's Keena Owen last year. Just four days before the meet, Lewis made a slight adjustment and noticed an immediate improvement.


"I started out with my hands out too far apart, and then I scooted them in to get my weight more on the end of the pole," Lewis said. "It helped a lot."


It helped her beat Mooreville's Ann Howell, the favorite coming in. Howell finished second with a vault of 8-6.
