These kids are really working hard. Not sure if Arkansas is one of the top states, but for the population we're doing OK. This is the first time in Arkansas high school history that we've had 6 vaulters over 15'0". We have a few more that are capable of breaking that barrier before the season is over.

Good luck with the rest of your season. Come down and jump sometime.

The guys are very impressive, but i think the girls deserve just as much praise. Having that list keep going down with girls getting in the 11ft range is really impressive. 11' would have gotten a girl 2nd place in NY for indoor while an 11'3 puts them at 1st, so to have that many girls over 11 and then some in the 12s is really amazing.

It helps that most of these boys and girls train together every weekend, so they know that expectations are high and nobody gets a break. Nice atmosphere! These are all great kids and I have a lot of respect for everyone of them! Some will move up the ranks as they mature a little more and realize what they can actually do.

We have 5 boys qualified for NIKE so far and one that is an inch away. It's going to be a blast to see how they all do in the next few weeks!

wow, so far only 1 guy in NY that ive heard of have qualified for nikes, and it was a 15'3 jump from this senior i know who didnt do indoor. All the 15'ers from NY and the Dicarse twins havent quite hit it yet.

That's crazy! I can't understand why there wouldn't be more big heights turned in from heavily populated areas. The whole state of Arkansas only has 2.7 million people. Dallas has 4.6 million, Los Angeles has 15.6 mill and New York City has 19.8 mill.

We might not have running water in some areas and outhouses are still considered an option when building a house, but we're going to try to be competitive in the pole vault!

I think the differences lie in the attitudes toward sports down there, a lot more people take it seriously. Also, clearly the great coaches are down there, working with even the average athletic kid to get them over 13 or 14. I think a big part of it is being able to practice outside all year round, as well. I do indoor, but when outdoor comes around im usually too comfortable with the perfect indoor set-up, and it takes me a week or 2 to get back to my PR's from indoor.
