Jodie Mayes has been as close to automatic as Fayetteville track and field has had this season.
Mayes, a senior, continued that routine Tuesday at Russellville with a AAAAA-West Meet record catapult of 11-07 in the girls pole vault finals. Her 10 points account for nearly 1/3 of Fayetteville’s 31 points heading into Friday’s AAAAA-West Conference Meet finals at Russellville. "It’s been tough on her doing track and being a member of the state champion gymnastics team," Fayetteville coach Bill Harrelson said. "She hasn’t been able to vault at some of our meets this year but she came though big when we needed it. To perform like she did and set a conference record says a lot about her perseverance and her talent level. Jodie winning the pole vault was big for us and she gave a tremendous effort."
