Potalivo is state pole vault champ

This vault of 14 feet, 8.5 inches in late March set a Key West High record for Hunter Potalivo. Saturday, he won the state title with an even high vault that broke his own school mark.

Conch breaks his own record for Key West

Imagine the Houston Rockets' Yao Ming standing on an 8-foot fence. That's how high 15 feet, 6 inches is.

And that's the height Key West High School senior Hunter Potalivo cleared to win the pole vault event at Saturday's Class 2A state track and field meet at Showalter Field in Winter Park.

Potalivo, one of seven Conch seniors who won medals at the meet, broke his school record of 14-8.5, which he set this season.

He was just shy of tying the 15-9 Florida high school record,
