COLUMBIA -- Chris Walker is in line to be the next great Landrum Cardinal pole vaulter.
As a junior, he vaulted 12 feet, 6 inches and came in second place at the 1A track and field state meet on Saturday.
It was the best he's vaulted all year. As a sophomore he made it to the state finals and finished eighth with a vault of 10-6.
"I'm not satisfied," Walker said of his finish. "I want more."
With a new pole, more conditioning and extra practice, Walker said that he can get better at the event.
This season, Walker won the county and region championships.
If his improvement from his sophomore to junior seasons is any indication, he will certainly increase his height as a senior.
