LEARN-BY-DOING EXPERIENCES FOR JUNIOR HIGH
AND HIGH SCHOOL BOY VAULTERS AND COACHES

Directed by McMurry’s Pole Vault Coach Brad Parris

The 2007 McMurry University Pole Vault Clinic is intended to give junior high and high school boy vaulters and coaches the knowledge and skills to have a record-breaking 2008 vault season. Campers will follow specific task progressions for optimal success !!!!

Clinic Dates and Fees:
When? Friday July, 13th & Saturday July, 14thth (2007)

Friday & Saturday: 8:30AM-5PM ***This will be a day camp only***
How Much?
*Athletes ($150.00) Late Entry ($175.00)
*Coaches ($75.00) Late Entry ($100.00)

***Entries due by Saturday July 7th, 2007***

***This vault camp’s registration will be cut-off at 12 entries. This will help maximize participation and one-on-one time with our coaches. Make sure you get your registration in before all slots are filled !***

What Do I Bring? Workout Clothes, Swim Suit, Towel, Flats, Spikes, Poles!!!

:eek: Achtungpv please don't fit me into the "sterotypical" Texas Pole Vault Coach! Sorry for the misleading words on the camp printout. I just found that . . . . .

*Run at max controlled speed as to maintain postural integrity throught the take-off
*Plant high in hopes of achieving a "free take-off" NOT using a rigid bottom arm, but rather achieving an "elastic takeoff" postion with a pronounced inverted "C" and....
*Use active arms so that you might resist "passive" vaulting movements and maintaining constant energy to the vaulter/pole relationship .... just wouldn't fit onto my camp brochure, and would probably confuse the beginners that make up the majority of our vault camps.

I'll consider rewording next year!

Trust me, I am with you on the sterotypes of Texas Pole Vault Coaching. Everyone is looking for "the better way" without any thought of the safety of the event. Heck, I still have two vaulters I coach at our university who were taught in high school to "load" the pole by force bending with the bottom arm at take-off. It has been a chore breaking bad habits.
I still know that their our great coaches in Texas that are using appropriate vault methods. Field and sand drills, ring and rope drills, and a plethora of rigid swinging pole drills are the backbone of McMurry Universities Pole Vault Camp. I am much more about progressive task developments and subscribe more to the "continous chain" ideas! We need to take as many strides as possible to get away from the "Texas Pole Vault Manifesto" (Although extremely humerous!)
