I think it is important to realize that we are just making light of what we think is bad technique, not at any one person... It is our opinion that there are many examples of bad technique being taught and we wanted to point them out in a joking manner... If you are offended by this, then I apologize, no harm was intended... This is directed at no particular group or person...

Addition: It is important that you lean back on the "takeoff," so that way you are in position to finish your vault at all costs.
Also, knee drive is unnecessary.
4.75... Write THAT down...

I've noticed that when your athletes, across the board, show good and safe technique, and place at big meets, that the coaches worth working with will come over and talk to you about what you're doing with the kids. I know because I'm the one going over and talking to coaches with good kids. LOVE the manifesto!!! Bubba

I think vaulters should start wearing lots of jewelry... like necklaces, bracelets and protective eyewear. But it must be fashonable.

You're right. I think I may have gotten off the message here. Of course I don't think or hear as well since my new gold and diamond dental grill picks up AM radio and sets off my car alarm. LOL!! Bubba

I hope some new vaulter doesn't take this seriously haha, and tries to follow these steps. Dangerous

An addition to the original post should be added -

Just caught up with this because I always track Docs posts -surprised I missed one from old achtung tho. If it wasn't to tragic the original post would be funny. It is just a pity that the good coaches in Texas - and I suspect there are many - cannot have greater influence on the rest. For example does Tom Tellez ever get a chance to present his ideas on a statewide basis or is he completely out of it now??

They have to want to receive the message and unfortunately, many do not. It worked for them in the 70s, 80s, 90s, so be it. I start every year like I know nothing and re-evaluate every detail of my training and vault. For me this begins with re-reading the Beginner to Bubkas. Thank you for that masterpiece Alan!! Bubba

PS - Back in Southern California and training with Simon - Bring Jenny and come visit!
