INDIANAPOLIS- All-time Masters great Nadine O'Connor has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after winning four events last week at the 2006 USA Masters Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Charlotte, N.C.
A 64-year-old resident of Del Mar, Calif., O'Connor won national titles in the women's 60-64 age-group in 100 meters (14.04) and 200 meters (29.53 seconds), and set meet records in winning the short hurdles (16.45 seconds) and pole vault (3.0 meters/9 feet 10 inches).
Also in Charlotte, Bill Collins of Houston, Texas, won the 100m, 200m and 400 meters for the fourth consecutive year at the USA Masters Championships with his victories in those events in the men's 55-59 division. Collins won national championships by running 11.64 seconds in the 100 meters, 23.44 seconds at 200 meters and 53.05 seconds in the 400 meters. Collins owns more than 80 masters national titles, 17 world masters crowns and has set nearly 20 world records during his remarkable Masters career.
Now in its sixth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
