Just a reminder about dehydration and heat exhaustion
Well? I deserve to give myself a big "DUH" on this one, but I figure if I forgot about it so would many of you. We had a 90 plus degree day here in Minnesota on Friday with about the same for the humidity. I had the day off so I figured I'd go out in the backyard and get a jump session in. I got so wrapped up in what I was doing I didn't pay attention to the "fluids thing" as much as I should have. When I finally realized what was going on It was too late. Fortunately, parts of my body were getting sore enough that I had to quit jumping for the day anyway (still not giving any thought to the "fluids thing"). Like what occurred in Louisville last year, for me anyway, occurred on Friday. The lightheadedness, and the leg cramps. Oh GEEZ, the leg cramps dang near killed me. So, with that, just a friendly reminder to all of you "geezers" out there to watch your fluids. Pound the water and the electrolytes. A weight lifter that I discussed this with told me (I'm sure he was exaggerating a little bit here) in these hot conditions we should drink enough to be peeing about every 15 minutes. Funny thing is, these old bones and muscles feel pretty good working in this heat but we just have to remember to feed them the water they need. Later.............Mike
