I told my wife, Nancy, last month when airfare was $576 from Houston to Spokane that I would wait a few weeks until the prices came down. She asked how that would happen with gas prices going up. WELL, Southwest was fined $10 million for safety violations and American took a HUGE hit by cancelling flights for three days.

My dad is a travel agent, so if you are in need of plane tickets, hotels, etc. visit
http://www.roundfare.com. His prices are often less than sites such as Orbitz and Travelocity. Give him a call sometime and he'll try to help you out.
Please don't take this as spam, I am just trying to help anyone who wants to save some money.
P.S. - Buying your travel last minute (within a week or so of departure) will often save you loads of $

If anyone wants to fly in and out of Seattle, there are a number of masters athletes (of all events) in my track club, and I suspect we will have quite a few people commuting back and forth. I can try to facilitate ride sharing, no guarantees though. You might just find better deals flying in and out of Seattle and renting a car. If you're going to rent a car in Spokane anyway, your only extra cost is gas and maybe an extra day or two of car rental. There is some pretty scenery between here and there.
I should have poles available to loan people, it just depends on if the Vancouver (BC) beach vault conflicts.

From SeaTac to Spokane is around 4 hours plus stops. The mountain passes are easy to get through in the summer, the only slow down might be traffic around Seattle.
There is lots of fun stuff to do up here, consider spending a few days! We have all-comers meets in Seattle (well just barely north of Seattle) every Wednesday including the Wednesdays before and after Nationals.
