Alternative take-off

Unread postby jumpbackin » Wed Jan 23, 2008 5:09 pm

One time vaulting in college, I did a weird vault where on my last two steps I went completely up on my toes. I'm sure there was no vertical character to the take-off but the vault was smooth and gave me a good clearance on a bar not too far below my pr. I said to my self "I'm gonna try that again!" and for the next two weeks I tried in vain to reproduce it.

Fast forward 20 years. I'm trying to vault again and my take off foot is killing me. I'm about to the point of throwing in the towel but it has ocurred to me, if I could recreate that tip-toe takeoff there would be little stress on that foot.

I don't know why I couldn't do it again before, it seems like such a simple idea. Seeing as how I'm less light footed now it will probably be harder to recreate now than in my 20's, so I'm hoping for some ideas from you guys. The idea is no jump off just running through on the toes at the point of plant. Could it be in the pole carry or the timing of the plant I needed to adjust rather than just think about getting up on the toes?

I know this is a weird one, but I'd appreciate any ideas you guys have. Thanks.

I think it's Plantar Fasciitis. I used to battle the classic heel spur plantar fasciitis but this is more toward the ball off my foot. I think it's just the other end of the same problem. Running doesn't seem to hurt it, just taking off.
