Got a call from Matti Kilpelainen this morning from Italy.... said he had a nice jump at his opening height(3.4) and on his first attempt at the next height strained his achilles and withdrew...... will be back in the states in a few weeks..
Witnessed Gary Hunter M50-54, set a new WR yesterday 9/15/07 of 16'0"(4.89).
Gary was holding 14-3 on his stick and popped 31" over his grip.
Karen Reiger also had a fine day as she jumped 3.09 to set a new AR for the W40-44. All at Vault High Athletics outdoor USATF PV meet.

Sorry to hear about Matti but GREAT for Gary and Karen. No surprise by either but 16' is a HUGE deal. He's been flirting with it so long I'm so glad he got. Almost as glad as I will be when I leave his age group to the M55s in June. LOL!! Bubba

Congratulations to all three. Matti, hope your recovery is quick and complete. Karen, nice to see you continue to improve. Gary, what can I say? That is a major accomplishment. I hope someone got video of it and can post it or send me a copy and I'll post it.

I was visiting Paul Babbit's site and saw a link to movies of Gary's 16', Karen Reiger's AR and Paul Babbits jumping 16'. Nothing like seeing M45 and M50 guys jumping on 16' poles. Bubba
