Ken Stone wrote: Of course, the M40 rankings fly out the window in late September or early October, when a gent named Jeff Hartwig jumps around 18-6 to take down (at last) Larry Jessee's widely doubted WR of 5.50 (18-0 1/2)
After his disappointing Osaka meet, I wrote him and asked about his plans for the rest of the season, especially after he turns 40 on September 25.
He replied:
Ken,
We are working on getting something set up. I will let you know the details.
Thanks for writing.
Jeff
So stay tuned.
Things will really get jumpin when Jeff turns the big Four-Oh.

New M40/M35 Records?

Earlier today, on the International forum, I noted that if Hartwig's 5.70m at the World Athletics Finale in Stuttgart could have been just two days later, on his birthday, it would have been a new M40 world record.
I should also have mentioned that Hartwig currently holds the M35 record at 5.86m and that record, too, is in some jeopardy. Tim Mack's seasonal best is 5.86, but he cleared that height at Chula Vista on 14 June, about three months before his 35th birthday. Next year?

Outdoor record. I think he has jumped 5.90something indoors as a M35
Next year is an Olympic year, that should be a good year for Tim Mack to try and break Jeff's record!

Marvelous! Richly deserved and beyond suspicion, unlike the "record" it replaces. If somebody finds the scoresheet, it will be interesting to know whether Hartwig also tied the former mark and/or bettered it enroute. From the results given, it would appear that he would have had the opportunity to do 5.50 and 5.60 before his final height of 5.70.

Oops. We jumped the gun. Jeff didn't jump 5.70 today. He's on his way back home to Arkansas, en route to Yokohama.
A German friend wrote me:
I cannot find a pole vault meeting on Sept. 26 at Aachen. There was a meeting one week ago - on Sept 19, called "Domspringen" ("cathedral jumping") and Jeff Hartwig became 2nd with 5,70m. It took place on the square of the cathedral of Aachen. There was was no meeting yesterday (in the t&f stadium) at Aachen. I suppose the information on the message board is wrong - because the results, which are published o the board, are from the cathedral's compettion on Sept. 19.

I got the info from this site.
http://www.netcologne.de/domspringen/ as posted above by CB, but I don't read German. Please advise. I know he'll get it but 5.70m+ would be just awesome. Bubba
