I just remembered that Earl Bell said that the box at Reggie Lewis was too shallow. I couldn't tell the difference. Did anyone else think that? If so, how much too shallow? How does a shallow box affect one's jump?

A shallow box would make it harder to get on your poles, I didn't notice anything dramatic and Jeff Hartwing and Steve Hooker both have had big jumps in that same box....

It may have seemed that way to compensate for the fact that the box laid down in a cut out of the rubberized surface, whereas the rules call for it to be flush. Bubba
PS - I'm not blaming it for me being too conservative (I was) but I was at 76' on a pole I jump on from 54' in practice. I've also jumped high there on bigger poles too. Just not this time. DRAT!!
