On the occasion of his 72nd birthday, I interview Gerard Dumas of Canada, who has jumped in competition every year since 1948. He also is closing in on his 1,000th competition. Incredible.

Gerard
I would also like to extend birthday wishes. As a mediocre vaulter myself that has continued to jump continuously for 41 years I am very impressed and motivated to see if I can match your longevity record. It has been a fairly difficult task so far but I am aware and getting more aware year by year how much harder it gets each year. I know it will be very hard to reach your level of Iron man. I complement you on your streak and all the great work you have done for the pole vault for so many years. Good luck with the present year and I hope you can continue to jump for many more years.

I would also like to wish Gerard a happy birthday. He is a real character, and I have enjoyed getting to know him better since moving to the west coast.

Bonne fête, M. Dumas!

At the risk of a possible mis-translation, I post what my wife has interpreted this to mean.
You didn't think I would let this pass! :) I registered myself just to participate in this tidal wave of messages in your honor! :D You gotta laugh.
Don't abuse the French wines too much!!!
Soon you will reach 1000 competitions!

By the way, in the interview you forgot to speak about the training of the beautiful miss Jennyyyyyyyyfer in the snow...
