INDIANAPOLIS - Phil Raschker has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after winning the women's 60-64 100 meters, 200m, 300m hurdles, high jump, triple jump, pole vault and heptathlon at the 2007 World Masters Athletics Championships in Riccione, Italy.
A 13-time Masters Female Athlete of the Year, Raschker has won every event that she has contested so far at the World Masters Athletics Championships. She won the 100m (14.00), 200m (28.61), 300m hurdles (52.27), high jump (1.33 meters/4 feet 4.25 inches), triple jump (9.46m/31-0.5), pole vault (2.65m/8-8.25) and heptathlon (6,742 points). In the final days of competition, Raschker also will compete in the long jump.
Americans are faring well at the 2007 World Masters Athletics Championships. Gold medalist to date include:

Matti must have gotten hurt. He made his opening of 3.40m on the first attempt and then quit after only one attempt at his next height. He still got the silver but I hope he's OK.
My training partner, Don Curry, emailed me this morning that the early heights in the M50 were directly into a setting sun making it very dangerous for depth perception.
I don't know why big meets can't always be run well. In 1997 in South Africa we had a 40+ mph headwind because they thought it would be unsafe to jump on the other end where the standards weren’t bolted down. At the same meet, the late Dan Borrey (who had the WR), nh’d because the wooden frame that held the pit together protruded over the edge of the box standing him straight up 2’ over a 12’ 7â€Â
