Grad School

Hey ya'll,
I am graduating this year in May and I want to find a graduate position on a team somewhere. I was wondering if there were any G.A.'s out there and how they got that ball rolling. I have no idea where to start. I am willing to go anywhere in the country, and I would prefer a D1 school. My coach was telling me that most schools are not looking for you to contact them, but they want to hear about you and contact you. If you are a GA how did you go about the process and if you know of any openings that would be sweet too! Thanks a lot!

How are they going to find out about you unless you contact them?

I would start looking at what schools have the program you are interested in. Also consider looking into assistantships for things besides coaching.

I think he was talking about coaches referals and things like that...I don't like that though because I am not in control.

I was in your tracks about a year and a half ago. I was offered an G.A position and also a volunteer position for Track and Field. I'd say to get the ball rolling your going to want to get some contacts through your coach is one of the only and best ways. Get the coach's names, call them up, show them you're dedicated. Track G.A positions are rare. Most of the time you can find better assistantships through your grad program or by being an R.A for a dorm or working for the University.

NCAA host a website that post jobs throughout college sports, you'll find that G.A positions are usually only available for football/basketball.

I opted out. Wanted to find a way to pay for my grad education, while still training, and paying off loans. The real world also has these opportunities if you are ready to step off the college campus.

Hope this helps...

I don't know much about finding a GA position at a diffferent school though because I didn't switch schools, but I can tell you about mine if you have any questions
