Great article on Bob Fraley saving Fresno State track

Unread postby zack » Wed Apr 23, 2003 3:11 pm

Apparently Bob Fraley gave up his salary so that the men's program could continue. Goes to show you how little schools care about track programs if a program like Fresno State could be cut.

thats awesome. what a stud. what a sacrafice. absolutely amazing. it also goes to show that if Fresno State, with that much history and tradition in track and field, is ready to cut the sport, none of us are safe. something needs to happen....

I know the article is long but you all REALLY should read it.

There are volenteer coaches (who get nothing) across the nation. Of course that does not compare to giving up 90k a year as a sacrifice to save your sport as a whole but..............

Next time somone gives their time freely at the very least say thank you. Most volenteers do not do it for recognition, but for the love of what they are doing and the people they are working with/for.

I am a volenteer and would not hesitate to do exactly what coach Fraley did. He is truely a great man and example of what a leader is all about.

The old athletic director left Fresno state sports in the hole big time, as of now sports dropped are indoor track, womens swimming, soccer, and track. Since Fraley retired, he said that if giving my 93k back to the program will save it then so be it. With track(outdoor) saved the other three are still going to get cut.
The soccer team is raising money to stay but if they raise money and the women's swimming team doesn't they both get hacked.(title 9)
ahh San Diego: women, sun , beaches, pole vault, what else do you need.

Last year Bowling Green. This year West Virginia, Toledo, (almost Fresno State) and NOW Marshall??!! What is happening? After this year West Virginia will have no DI track programs (at least for men).
