Once again I will most likely be enduring those agonizing seats
at the Reggie Lewis Center this weekend whilst partaking in some
of the NCAA DII Indoor Championships that just happen to be
taking place in Beantown. Good grief I should just get a room
there - we had over 7 meets there for the HS crew, 2 days of the
USATF Champs, 2 days of the NCAA's and then coming up 2 days of
the Masters champs. S'alright tho - the action on the track will
more than make up for it. Don't know if I'm gonna be able to make
both days or not - we shall see. Still might try to go down to
NYC and check out the scholastic action too. Haven't decided yet.
We shall see...

Regardless the DII folk are ready to put on a show and unlike the
elite athletes who had to endure unseasonably warm weather here
two weekends ago, these folks will be in for a treat - snow snow
and more snow. Predicitions for Wednesday night range anywhere
from 3 inches to two feet. Gotta love the northeast (shut up Kris
Allison - yeah I know it's seventy friggin' degrees at your
ranch :-) )

Katie Eckley and Amanda Frame were the only 2 automatic qualifiers
here but  for the first time every competitor has made 12' or better.
There's a lot of familiar faces - Last year's indoor #4's (Studer,
Miller), #7 (Gorter), #8 (Frame), #9 (Roehrick) and #10 (Eckley)
return for another shot.

This was definitely a tough field to make as evidenced by the fact
that neither the 2nd or 3rd place finishers from last year's meet
managed to qualify. Silver medallist Jennie Nemeth could only manage
11'08" during the season, while #3 Kimberly Hilton was a miniscule 2
inches below the last qualifier.

A suprising number of freshman will populate the final - 4 to be
precise - and they could have a big effect on the medal stand.

Katie most always comes up big at the national meet and won the
whole shebang last outdoors. Got herself a nice PR at the Tyson
Invitational against some serious DI competition. Followed that
with another swell jump at the Sooner Indoor against similar
folk.

Amanda has a decent year in '03 but this year she's much improved.
Has been over 12' in 7 of 8 meets and cracked the 13' barrier two
weeks ago in Minnesota. Only one loss in her season and that was
against DI competition.  Big question for her and her two teammates -
how will they react to being away from Minnesota? We've tried to
supply appropriate weather for 'em...

Lewis teammates Mark Zilch and Duane Chappel were the only two
to snag automatic qualifiers this year. They distance themselves
from the rest of the field by over 5 inches. The 3rd Flyer in
the field could do some damage too.

Only one freshman and two sophomores made the cut - this is
definitely an upperclassmen affair.

Last year's #2 and #6 - J. R. Skola and Kyle Rutldge - failed to
make the field here. Skola missed the cut by 5 inches while
Rutledge has not jumped this season

he's mired in the mid 16's - should be good enough to medal but
