TOMMY SKIPPER JUMPS 5.70

Unread postby vaultguru6 » Sat Feb 07, 2004 6:57 pm

Thats 18'8" and change for the metricly impaired. Just got the call from the man himself. Went to 5.83 after for the world lead but "gas tank was on E" after opening at 17'4".

Thats an 8" indoor PR and 5" overall PR. Tommy is a stud.

You got that right guru.....That guy is so talented its scary. Dev, is this a new freshman or American junior record? I dont know how old Tommy is, but LOJO had the record at 5.70???

well he is 19, and he doesn't turn 20 until september. However, from what i've read on this board, i don't believe it counts. If i have it correct, you only qualify as a junior in the years before the year you turn 20. So since he turns 20 this year, he is no longer a junior, and therefore he is no longer elidgable for the record. Either way it's an amazing jump. And yes, Tommy is a stud

5.56 Tommy Skipper USA 14 09 1984 1 Sacramento, CA 15 06 2003.

when he went 18'3'' he was18 i think so he'll be 20 in august, i think?? So i think thats a Indoor record for sure, and maybe an all time best for american 19 year old.

5.65..18-6 1/2..Maksim Tarasov (Soviet Union)...Chelyabinsk, Russia........2/25/89

5.65.....18-6 1/2...Jacob Davis (US)....Lincoln, Nebraska..........2/21/97

****according to Track and Field News that would also be a NEW INDOOR JUNIOR WORLD RECORD (if hes still a junior).

I bet Brad Walker wasn't too happy about getting beat by Skipper ;) I hope Brad's hammy is feeling better. Was that a PR for Trosclair? McKane Lee tied his PR

Yea, I think that was a PR for Daniel. Brandon had a big breakthrough. That is great for him. LB

The 5.71 does not count as a junior record. IAAF & USATF records for juniors must occur in the year previous to the year the athlete turns 20. Even if he jumped 5.71 on 1/1/04 and didn't turn 20 until 12/31/04, he is still considered 20 years old.

It ties the top college mark for a freshman though:
5.71 Lawrence Johnson Tennessee (true freshman, outdoor junior NR)
5.71 Tommy Skipper Oregon (true freshman)
5.66 Scott Huffman Kansas (redshirt freshman)
5.65 Jacob Davis Texas (true freshman, = indoor junior WR)

On a side note, this makes Tarasov's 5.80 (19' 1/4") U20 WR all the more impressive since he was a December baby. He wasn't even 18 1/2 when he cleared that mark.
