Florida: Jock Jump
What's more impressive than pole vaulting? Pole vaulting in your athletic supporter. Florida's Jock Jump started in 1996, when a senior, Troy Rumfelt, said he'd once jumped naked. "We thought, We've got to do that," says Steve Mesler, then a freshman decathlete. "But maybe we shouldn't get arrested." Jock straps were deemed enough clothing for the vaulters to avoid trouble. Strings were pulled to get lights turned on at the stadium, and Mesler made up flyers and started a website. The first competition featured Lawrence Johnson, who earned a silver medal in the 2000 Olympics, and Mesler, who in 2002 made the Olympics in the bobsled. Tradition dictates that Jock Jump start with an announcer reading the jumpers' bios. At the post-party a "trophy" keg is bought in the name of the winner. The Jump went coed in 1999 (female competitors wear sports bras and underwear) and is going strong, albeit under constant fear of being shut down. "I have no idea how we never got in trouble," Mesler says.

Ok, I'm an old guy, 53, I'm supposed to sit here and say, "that's disgusting".
What? I'm I nuts and out of touch? H*ll no, that's the coolest thing I've heard of. FUN, FUN, FUN, that's what all of this should be about. Trust me kids, I WON'T show up to take part. Only my wife thinks I'm cute in a jock strap. But do what needs to be done to keep the tradition going!!!!!!!! Later........Mike

Yeah jock jump is still going strong, last year we had one of our best turnouts. The tradition has changed a lil bit because now just the seniors wear jock straps and the sophs and juniors usualyl get some sort of thong that the ladies will enjoy. and as for the freshman they wear whatever we make them lol. I think this year we are gonna give them a sock and a rubber band but its not finalized yet. The ladies usually get some sort of matching outfit that looks good. But yeah everyone is welcome to come bring as many spectators and competators as possible. let me know if you need any info on it.
