D1 and D2 schools etc

hey! could someone tell me the difference between like a D1 school and a D2 school? and what makes a D1 school a D1 school and a D2 school a D2 school? also which one has better athletics?

check me if im wrong, but im pretty sure D1 are allot bigger, and have much better athletics. Though im not sure of the requirements to make it D1 or D2. someone esle will have to get that part.
What have you done today to get better?

It is mostly the size of the school. As far as how good a school is does not really ahve a lot to do with it. D1 are bigger for example, UW is a D1 and CWU and WWU are D2.
