Just because a great athlete doesn't need the NCAA to be a world class athlete, having grad school, room, board, equipment, coaching and travel to meets all paid for isn't something one should pass up without a very good reason. When you can be on full scholarship somewhere, that means you dont have work and have a lot less monetary worries hindering your training.

Well said!!

And the athletes should remember they are "student" athletes. Student comes first. If they can't cut it in the class room they can't keep the benefits you described. They'll have to do it the hard way.

I think you guys are overlooking some things. It's a free education. Take advantage of it. I don't want to be Joe Motivator here, but you can do anything you want in life. Might as well learn how to do it. I stuck around this year knowing grad classes would be free, as well as travelling, competing and doing something i love. I'm sure Brad and Jeremy are still happy to be in school.

Be realistic, a degree is what is going to pay for Pole vault after college. I'm sure their are a sh** load of guys who copped out of polevaulting after college because they didn't have the $. Education = $$$ That's bling bling for the late one.

Bigger, faster, stronger, smarter, wealthier... has to happen everyday or your wasting your damn time. Let some one else use your scholarship.

We spoke in Reno, and he said that they are giving him an offer he basically can't refuse. They are going to pay for some schooling that would have costed him thousands in the near future. Of course he is excited to jump D1, but he also going to get a degree for free in return for one outdoor season of vaulting. Not a bad deal.

how does paying for "some" of the schooling translate into a "free degree" also, the phrase "free in return" doesnt quite make sense.

Jeremy has earned every bit of every dollar. However you all need to be careful what you say. If what you have implied is true............well there are some NCAA rules regaurding scholorships that make up what would be referred to as a MAJOR violation.

Sometimes its not what you say..................its HOW you say it.
