Champions aren't made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them-a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have last-minute stamina, they have to be a little faster, they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill. - Muhammad Ali

i'm a little partial to my own school, but if your looking dIII at all look at southern maine. the vault coach is Mike Drummy a national champ out of Southern Connecticut State University. He also competed nationally and international after college with a pr over 18'6". He is an amazing coach and has sent two girls to nationals. he works amazingly well with the gifts that you may have. if a world record is in you, he'll find it.

I thought I remember Mike Drummey jumping 5.80 back around like '96 - or was that Mike Holloway?

You could be right, thats right around his time. I believe his last year of college was 95' and continued for a few more years in the mainstream.

I don't think Mike Drummey ever jumped 5.80, although, I could be wrong.

Most likely Holloway, if it was in 96 Drummey would have been at the trials

Drummey PR'd at Reno in '97 with 5.65. Outdoor best was 5.62 or 5.63.

Deering PR'd at US indoors with 5.80 to make the WC team in '97.

Halloway's PR was 5.81 at Mt SAC or Modesto in '96.

I can't remeber exactly his pr but i believe it was about 18'6", and he did miss the 96' olympics by a single jump, that he did tell me. I'll talk to him tonight at practice about his pr, i'll try to get him to join the forum if i can.

Oh, and I believe he will be jumping with us at Dartmouth this year. He usually takes a few practice jumps at the begining of january and heads out there with us.
I've been trying to convince him to go to reno again and take some of us with him, but he is stuborn and said he won't go untill he can get himself back in to the elite competition.

I don't know what Mike Holloway's pr is (I think it's more than 5.80), but it was done at Stanford in 1996.

The original question was coach's for women. Do all of these guys coach women? Do the Hood's coach women? How about Tom at OK, he's done a terrific job with the guys? The media guide we got from Arkansas said they had only had one male conference champion in the schools history, if that's so I hope the women have a different coach (unless it's a new coach). I don't get to many national D1 meets to see coaches west of the Mississippi so all I know is what I here from you guys, but on the East coast last year Aaron James of GA had 6 girls at the regional and FL had 6 or 7 there as well. I don't know the FL coach though. I guess I should have met him yesterday at Clemson where his women did great.

P.S. Brian, congrats on the baby! I know you're "grin'n like a mule eat'n briar's" all the time. :D
