Take care of your grades first, your jumping 2nd, with what you have going with your jumping you'll have a school to jump at. I'm rooting for you Scott, get your grades.

Ya I am the same way. If i put HALF the effort in my school work as I do pole vaulting I would probably have a 3.0 GPA maybe even a 3.5. I just finished freshman year and beginning to realize how important my grades are going to be for getting in to college. A guy out here that set the state record with 16'9 had to go to junior college because of his grades. I dont know about you guys but I want to go to a big school like ones in the Big Ten. I guess I'll be hittin the books a lot more soph year. I spend to much time thinkin about girls :P

You have to pass a certain number of classes each term to stay eligible in college. And you have to make progress toward your major, so at some point you have to take some real classes mixed in with the BS.

Bottom line, it doesn't matter how high you jump in high school if you don't have the academics to back it up.

Well I pass all of my classes,I havent ever had to reapeat a class or a grade or take summer school, but our school only gives 1 point for a D, as apposed to some other schools give 2. I still have another year to bring it up and I plan too, I really only HAVE to bring it up about .1 or .2, not a whole lot, but I want to raise it as high as I can.

You're lucky they give anything for Ds. Why would they give more than 1 point? Where I am from, a D is not passing.

Hey Duck,

Most high schools calculate GPAs on a different scale than what is the norm for colleges...like using a 5.0 scale for honor classes, giving 1.0 for a 'D', etc. Regardless of the calculation method your HS uses, the NCAA converts your grades to the traditional 4.00 GPA scale. Thus, if you pass all (or a majority) of your classes, you will have over a 2.00 on that scale.
