It is going to be a great year for both these central Texas schools, good people and great athletes are in place at both institutions. Trey needs to sneak another whole year in at UT, he has been fun to watch. Donovan will get the big bars. He is a very serious student, I appreciate his dedication to his athletic pursuits and his scholastic ones. Texas State is loaded with talent and good coaching, Coach G and her team could be Southland indoor and outdoor champs this year. And Blake, keep working, you looked good at the river vault, I was proud of you.

I dont think DK has done bad at all... When I saw him jump he looked great... You just gotta remember that he has 9 other events to focus on as well, not like high school when you are limited to only 5 or 6... He is a good vaulter, he will jump 5.40 again...

Thanks Brian... I'm not slowing down either... I have increased my PR every year I have been doing this by at least a foot each year, and I plan on doing that at least until I graduate... I just need guys like you and Kris to keep busting my chops until it happens... :P

p.s. It's also not bad to have threads like this one to give me a little more inspiration to jump higher... Thanks kat_vaulter... :yes:

On the contrary, 18" on a 16 foot pole is actually pretty awful if you ask me. You should at least be able to jump 12 feet below your handhold.

don't think anyone else caught that.... but that would be 14'6" below, right? which is waaaaay worst than 12' below. ;)

Saw a guy years ago jump 10'6" gripping 15'9".

Yes he was a dec that other decs wouldn't claim.

Good stuff! But according to some of my girls, you have to be holding at least as high as you plan on jumping. I can't seem to convince them that Yelena isn't holding 16+!

just a casual observer --- but you guys from Texas must be drinking your own KoolAid...just checked the Nationals and it was Texas Tech that made an appearance????

for some decs this may be true... i don't push off that much either.

Somebody needs to clarify that decs arent pole vaulters... Pole vaulting is a certain type of crazy that is only exceeded by those in the decathalon... And as you all know, all sprinters, jumpers, and distance runners think the vaulters are crazy, but all the vaulters think that the decs are crazy... So putting pole vaulters and decatheletes in the same category is like putting oil with water... It doesnt mix, and it often threatens the lives of many birds and aquatic animals... :yes:
