Injuries!
[i]Injuries have been kicking me in my @$$ so far this year..From a stress fracture in my shin back in sept. released week before xmass break and during that week i did this some how....Does anyone have any suggestions for lower stomach or groin strain injuries? I feel as if i've did everything to make it better it's been a month and a half and im still not healty!!!! And havent gotten to compete in the indoor season bc of it....It hurts to run. I dont know whats going on. Any suggestions anyone??? Thanx[/i]

Are you sure it is a strain? I initially had a lower abdominal/strain diagnosis and it turned out to be a hernia, one on each side. Mine didn't get better with rest, which led everyone to believe that it was the hernia, which I had surgery to fix. Be careful, and make sure you have had the injury diagnosed by someone knowledgable.

i strained my groin at outdoor conference, i had 2 weeks to recover and be ready for ncaa's. i was in the training room 4-5 times a day, that's at least 6-8 hours per day. i didn't throw, jump, hurdle, etc until the meet itself... REST AND TREATMENT, don't do anything until you are well enough to. err on the side of caution, the second you think you can get away with coming back early, it'll bite you again and you're back to square one.
'THE HAY'S IN THE BARN'... you're not gonna forget how to vault just by sitting out a few weeks and getting healthy. when you come back, you'll be rested... not necessarily fit, but rested.

I am currently writing a diagnosis/treatment paper for what you are describing that I will be submitting to the development coaches for the pole vault...what you are calling low ab/groin pain is actually very common among pole vaulters, yet nobody seems to know about it...
what you are describing is one of three things
1. a hernia...that is a simple diagnosis, any family doctor can test you for that...that is basically a small tear in the lower inner abdominal wall where the intestine is pushing through...from the sounds of it this is not your problem
2. athletic pubalgia (or what they are calling a "sports hernia") you have probably heard of donovan McNab dealing with this...this is actually not a hernia , but rather a tearing away of a tendon attachment ...not too likely your problem, but definitely possible...it will show up in a MRI, but the MRI has to be very specifically done...
3. Osteitis Pubis (this is the killer) the list of athletes that have delt with this is long and surprising that I know of these are the guys that delt with it...Scott Huffman, Pat Manson, Tye Harvey, Dean Starkey, Jeff Hartwig, Russ Buller, Nick Hysong, Jacob Pauli, and Myself...I am sure there are many others, these are just guys that I ahve talked to recently about the specifics
anyhow, what you are describing sounds exactly like this injury, and let me tell you, it is likely that if running hurts it, there is no amount of rest that will make it better, and not to knock what Trey Hardee suggested, but your typical training room treatment will not likley help you...
Osteitis Pubis is inflamation in the Pubic Synthasis that is actually putting pressure on and separating the pubic bone...the normal problems that arise from this are exactly what you are describing...there are other pains and abnormalties that can occur, but they are all direct results of this separation of the pubic joint
personally, I had this problem...it poped up after a jump workout in mid November...after three days rest it felt good enough to jump so i did with almost no pain...actually jumped well made 5.80 and took good shots at 5.87...next morning I felt sharp pain in my low ab...so I started resting again...getting massage, physical therapy...you name it, i did it...then I started asking around and started finding out about all these other guys dealing with the same thing...
so after 5 weeks it was no better, yet it always felt like it was gonna be better in like 2 days
so before I go into too much detail, if this sounds like what you are dealing with, send me a message...I can probably steer you in the right direction
