Regional Qulaifying?

I just noticed a pole vault mark posted on the regional board that was done inside. Is there anyway that this could be legal? It was moved because of hard rain. I don't that it is but would like to know for sure.

I didn't think you could qualify indoors. When I was at LSU, it was debated whether or not we should move inside, and that was one big reason we did not.

However, if a school submitted a mark made indoors like that, the people who accept the marks probably would not know unless someone called them out on it.

yeah, it would suck to call this person out. I knew that it could not be done this way. I had a vaulter that jumped the regional standard at the same indoor facility earlier that day and said that it was a shame that it could not have been outside. The reply from the host school was that a vaulter can qualify if the official moves the event inside. It sounded wrong to me but low and behold a mark from that meet was entered. I hope that another mark is reached by this person before the Regional meet.

As it stands, we have had bad luck ever since that meet. Poor weather at Duke, cross winds, and bar clearances at the regional standard two times this weekend only to have the pole knock the bar off twice. I know that it was discussed before but this is a stupid rule.

Well, I have gotten my frustrations out. Please disregard if you are bothered. There are still many weekends left to qualify.

Honestly, if a person only hits the regional qualifier once, they are not likely to make it to NCAAs anyway. Since everyone with the qualifier gets to go to regionals (they're not keeping anyone else out), I suppose it's not as big of a deal as it could be.

Div II: Qualifing marks must be made using an outdoor facility unless the high jump or pole vault are move indoors for saftey reasons.

Wow, so i'm assuming that the pole vault for Division I has to make outdoor marks regardless of the weather turnout, because i don't see any thing about safety at all in their notes... [/u]

yeah doesnt matter about weather or anything in D1 you gotta make the mark regardless, there are so many kids over the mark anyways that it is a valid rule. if it is raining and the event has to be moved inside , it doesnt count, that happened for me last year. but its all good, regionals is a good idea i think, brings out the true competitors

my freshman year at the mideast regional at ohio state u. we moved inside right before the competition started and we got our ncaa qualifiers from an indoor meet.

I think that is because there is now make up date as the regionals are all set to go off at the same time to ensure fairness for those outside of the top five. It doesn't excatly work for the pole vault though.

I have not seen this in print, but was told by Dick Moss (Meet Ref) last week end at the Sea Rays Meet that the only thing that can be moved indoors and count is the PV for the Decathlon. Dick is a high level Ref. and is very much up on the rules.

This is kind of a different situation than having to post a qualifing mark that would get you into one of the a regional meets in the first place.
If I recall correctly (I was at OSU too) I believe all were told that only the fact that you can qualified to go on to the NCAA is what counts and that any record like height would not count.

That being said, it is also my understanding that to qualify for a regional, you must have jumped 5.05 (M) or 3.80 (W) in an outdoor meet to get you there.
