Here’s the Women’s PV portion of a news release on the Nebraska University website:

The pole vault holds the potential to be the strongest event for the 2005 Husker women. It could be argued that this year’s group of Nebraska women’s pole vaulters, which returns two All-Americans in senior Christi Lehman and sophomore Jenny Green, shapes up to be the finest in the county.

As a freshman, Green had the finest season ever in the brief history of the event at NU. The Grand Island, Neb., native captured both the indoor and outdoor Big 12 championships, while also earning bronze at both NCAA Championships. She has been preparing to compete in the multi-events this fall as well, but may be forced to miss a portion of the 2005 season with an injury.

"Jenny’s an amazing athlete and very focused," assistant coach Rick Attig said. "She just won’t stop. She went all summer before her freshman year competing, and then went to the World Junior Championships this year. I think she could also do extremely well in the multi-events."

Also a former conference champion vaulter, Lehman tied for ninth at last year’s NCAA Outdoor Championships, and is hoping to have an outstanding senior campaign. "Christi is also one of the top vaulters in the country," Attig said.

Junior Jessie Graff appears primed to have her best season. The NU indoor record holder along with Green, Graff has made tremendous improvement since the beginning of 2004.
"Of the vaulters we have, I think Jessie is the most improved," Attig said. "I’m excited about how she’s going to do this year. I feel she will be one of the top vaulters in the country."

Newcomers this year include junior Jenna Blubaugh and freshman Lacey Baxter, who both look to have bright futures as Huskers.

And here’s the men’s PV portion of the news release:

Nebraska will be missing a lot of talent in the pole vault this year following the graduation of former national champion Eric Eshbach and All-American Brad Teeple. Both athletes ranked on NU’s top-five career-best indoor and outdoor performance lists. The potential of several talented returnees and newcomers should soften the losses considerably.

Junior Ray Scotten, a transfer from Southern Illinois, arrives at Nebraska sporting a long resume. The former Indiana state high school champion vaulted his way to All-America status as a Saluki when he claimed fifth at last year’s NCAA Indoor Championships. Scotten’s career-best height of 18-0 3/4 would rank second on NU’s all-time outdoor performance list.

"Ray is a motivated athlete, a hard worker who has made some technical changes this year," assistant coach Rick Attig said. "I see Ray consistently vaulting in the 18-foot range, and maybe eventually getting into the mid- to high-18s."

Sophomore Gable Baldwin possesses the potential to also soar high for the Huskers, both this year and in the future. "I think Gable is going to try to be right there with (Scotten)," Attig said.

Two athletes Attig cites as making great strides during the fall training season are juniors Nic Petersen and Danny Tylka. "Nic has had a tremendous fall, with a lot of gains in his technique," Attig said. "I think he can end up having a really good year. Danny Tylka also had a very good fall, and I think he will jump well."

Junior Patrick Southern rounds out an impressive group of returning NU pole vaulters. Southern should see gains in his performance this year, as well.

The Huskers brought in a group of four freshmen vaulters to compete this season in Adam Froelich, Zachary Holoch, Daniel Wallace and Nick Watson. While their progress probably will not be critical to NU’s success this season, their development will play a key role in the fortunes of future Husker squads
