Ncaa 1 and 2 elegibility

Alright so im 19 years old im enrolled in a community college by the end of this summer ill have 6 credits and i graduated june 6 2015.
Ive been hearing from a friend of mine who said as long as I dont enroll as a full time student(12 credits) my collegiate clock wont start.
now on the other side ive been hearing if i dont start by the first year out of highschool my clock starts there anyways??
so basically im wondering if someone could help clear things up im very interested in competing in college but im not to clear on the ncaa rules
