COLUMBUS, OH – Seniors Michael Dempsey (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) of the RIT men's track and field team earned the third All-American honor of his storied career, finishing fifth in the pole vault at the 2011 NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships on Friday at Capital University.
Dempsey, who was the national runner up last year, finished fifth with a leap of 5.12 meters, just off his school record set on March 4 of 5.16 meters at the ECAC Championships. Craig Van Leewun of Ramap College won with a leap of 5.32 meters.Dempsey holds the RIT indoor and outdoor records in the pole vault.
