Are there any states that allow this? I know in our non-pole-vault-loving state of Wisconsin you can only vault if you go to camps (at least i think so). Do any states allow kids to just vault in the fall and stuff?
OK

Not true - you can vault in summer events, meets etc, like USATF meets , AAU, etc. - this also applies to indoors until the first official day of practice in March - there are a bunch of meets - Badger State Games has qualifier meets - USATF Wisc meet is this weekend in Kenosha at Carthage College

In my state you can vault as much as you like as long as your school coach is not helping you. You can have someone else there, just not your normal coach, which is what I am doing this summer, going to another school to practice.

that's a cool idea. I don't think it'd work in WI though. For the most part, a lot of the coaches either don't know what they're doing or don't want their kids getting better by other coaches. That must be part of the reason our state record is like 15'7 or something.

I do feel bad for working w/ other coaches, but the coach I am working with now, realizes my situation and respects that he is not my "main" coach and he works with m coach for drills and tries to adapt the techniques he teaches into his techniques. It works out really well.

How do you manage to find a coach to coach you. Right now i just finished my junior and i am realy disapointed in how i did. It's realy hard because I have no other pv teammatees and I dont even have a coach. I think I had a total of maybe 5 practices where I actualy pole vaulted.

Actually i have been pole vaulting year round. I started in Nov of last year (1st year) and have been vaulting to this day. I have also been in 2 meets this summer and am entered in 2 more so far. I wouldn't see any reason why you couldn't vault year round.

njvaulter, its actually really easy to get a coach to coach me. My real coach doens't come to meets because he always seems to be working on meet days, so usually at meets I depend on the help of the coaches that are there from other schools and surprisingly, they are just as supportive as my real coach. The coach I am working with now said to me at a meet "There are a lot of things you need to fix that you won't have time do do this season, so we are going to practice during the summer." So, thus my new coach! He is also a coach for a private school which makes it easier.
So, next season at meets, just get to know the other coaches if they say anything to you about what you need to do or what you are doing and maybe it will lead to another coach on the side. Where do you live? Just wondering, if by chance you live close to me we could work something out this summer vaulting wise. I am also a junior and I have one teammate, but she skips practice to go out with her boyfriend, maybe thats why i am BETTER than she is!

Oh and our state record isn't any higher than yours I think for guys! And girls is below 12'! So don't worry, the vaulters in VA suck a** too!
