Here's the scoop. I posted this thread using a cell phone while in Fayetteville, so details would have been hard to write with those little buttons.
Spencer opened at 15-6 and blew through with the standards burried. Went up poles and made it and 16-0 on his next two attempts, almost blowing through at 16-0. Went up poles again (14-9 190lbs.) and made 16-6 and 17-0 on his next two attempts. Took all 3 attempts to make 17-3.5. Went for 17-7 and had the height but ran out of gas. He weighs 135lbs. and held 14-6 on all jumps today. We are ordering a set of longer poles tomorrow.
According to the USATF Officials that certified the jump, 17-3 (5.26m) was the old Jr. Class National Indoor Record. They measured before and after the jump and it was official.
Spencer is a great young man and he works his butt off! We've got a lot to work on, but I'm just really glad to see him get his confidence back.

Spencer is 16 and his birthday is March 15th. That's easy for me to remember since that's also my wife's b-day. Good thing he came along or I'de forget to buy her a present.
He's never run the speed trap at Earl's, but he's pretty fast. We had him run from a shorter run last year (14 strides) and I think it really helped him develop some explosiveness. Now he's got it "gravy train" from 18 strides and is seems to have found an extra gear.
