Michael Woepse clears 16-9 in pole vault at Arcadia Invitational
The moment Michael Woepse sees his brother, Greg, he'll bring up his pole vault performance Saturday at the Arcadia Invitational track and field meet.
The Santa Ana Mater Dei junior won the pole vault, clearing 16 feet 9 inches to set an Orange County record. It broke the 16-8 mark set by St. Margaret's Johnny Quinn. Greg Woepse, currently a UCLA sophomore, and Huntington Beach Marina's Logan Odden are tied for third at 16-7.
"I'll get to rub it in his face a little bit," Woepse said. "We've been talking back and forth about me breaking it. He knew it was coming. He motivated me and kept saying, 'You haven't gotten it yet.' It's good to get it."
