The senior pole vaulter at Newport Harbor verbally commits to CAL and CAL pole vault coach, Scott Slover!
She was the National Freshman Record holder in the pole-vault in 2004 going 12-08 and winning the California State Meet.
As many of you might recall, she broke her tibia in her right ankle last May and was out for the year. She was trying out a new pole during a practice session at Golden West College and unfortunately fell into the concrete box, injuring herself.
She was #1 U.S. Outdoors last year at 13-5.75, clearing that height at the Surf City Invitational, which is a National Sophomore class record . . . At the time, it was just inches off of the National high school outdoor record of 13-8.50 set by Kira Costa in 2003.
Rumor has it that Allison was so "stoked" about her recruiting visit to Cal the weekend of the Cal vs Oregon football game with 72,500 fans in attendance at Memorial Stadium watching the #10 ranked Bears that she remarked rhetorically, "The atmosphere at CAL is absolutely amazing! How could anyone not want to go to school here?"
Congratulations Miss Stokke!

STOKKE COMMITS TO CAL
Allison Stokke, a Newport Harbor High senior, will have a lot less weight on her shoulders when she goes to pole vault this season.
That's because she no longer needs to worry about which college she will attend.
Stokke gave a verbal commitment to UC Berkeley on Oct. 12.
She chose the Golden Bears over UCLA.
Stokke, who set a national freshman record when she won a state title with a vault of 12 feet, 8 inches, finished second at the state meet last year.
She missed her junior postseason due to a broken leg.
Stokke said various aspects factored into her decision, including the team's new vault coach, Scott Silver, the amount of vaulters on the team (two), and the scholarship offer which Stokke called a "substantial amount" among others.
"It was a big factor that it is one of the top public schools in the nation," Stokke said. "I can't really go wrong. It's going to be good athletically and academically."
Stokke took an official recruiting trip to Cal earlier in the month.
"I liked the people there," Stokke said.

ipolevault, You're right. I think Casey's Dad coached at Stanford a while ago. You can still find his old web page with Google and that's what is probably leading to the confusion. I know for sure that Kris Mack is now the vault coach.
Good luck with your vaulting, etc. this year
