I'll try and post the state when it's obvious. If it's not obvious, I don't care enough to spend time trying to figure it out.

Two set pole-vault record

SACRED HEART TIES BALLARD FOR 3A TITLE

By Mark Maloney

HERALD-LEADER STAFF WRITER

LOUISVILLE - As is custom at the Mason-Dixon Games, Scott County's Andrea Sabbatine set a meet record in the pole vault.

What was different last night, though, is that Sabbatine had someone to push her in the girls' Class 3A event at Broadbent Arena.

Owensboro senior Mary Kris Durham matched Sabbatine's clearance of 11 feet, 6 inches to share the record.

Sabbatine, a junior, equaled her personal best to win her third straight Mason-Dixon, based on fewer misses. She won with a record of 10 feet, 2 inches as a freshman, and 11-5 last year.

Durham and Sabbatine both missed three times at 12-0. After hitting the bar on the way up on her first try, Sabbatine nudged it coming down on her last two tries.

Sabbatine, 118 pounds, switched to a stiffer pole for the last two tries because she was getting too much flex out of a lighter model.

Did she enjoy having some competition?

"Oh, my gosh, yes! It was wonderful," she said. "I'm so used to having to jump by myself. ... It was really, really nice having her there."
