WA in 1st with 49'7"

Was this WA's best year ever? Has any state ever gone over 50?

I have not checked, but I feel pretty confident that was WA's best year. I know it was for girls. And I am sure Texas has gone over 50' plenty of times in the past.

Texas 99'

Eric Eshbach, Orangefield, 18-2 1/4
Jonathon Henley, Orangefield, 17-3
Sage Thames, Wolfforth Frenship, 16-7

52'0.75" This has got to be the record!!! Although these marks are just from the state meet.

In 98 TX had 5 over 17' and 9 over 16'6, thats just sick...

Add in Rocky Danner's 17'1 and you've got 52'6.5!

How about a ratio of 15'+ vaulters -vs- State population.

Unread postby PVCoach » Thu Oct 17, 2002 11:09 pm

I like your research. I don't have the patience or inclination to do it. If you really get bored, an interesting study would be to compare the number of 15'+ vaulters in a state to the total population of the state. For example there are cities around the country that have more people than the entire state of South Carolina. We have 4,000,000 people in the state. We had 4 guys over 15', that's 1 per 1,000,000 people. We had 2 over 16', that's 1 per 2,000,000.

So, which state is producing the most top vaulters for it's size? I have no clue. I'd like to know though.

For example there are cities around the country that have more people than the entire state of South Carolina. I think we are around 3,500,000+/- people in the state. We had 3 over 15', that's 1 in 1,166,667. We had 2 over 16', that's 2 in 1,750,000.

Ooooh that would be interesting! I think WA would be pretty high... we are not THAT big of a state. Especially compared to CA and TX!

A better comparison would be how many 15+ vaulters were there compared to how many athlete participated in the vault in HS.

Yes but it is very hard to get an accurate number of participants.

yeah no kidding. Iv'e seen a list of track and field participation in all states in the US but I just cant remember where I saw it. One thing I do remember seeing is that texas was in first with twice as many participants as Cali in second. Thats somthing to say about texas! They sure do love track!
