average pole vault height

Unread postby TPHSpolevaulter » Sat Mar 29, 2003 1:40 am

I just started polevaulting this year and I was wondering what height I should be aiming for. I'm 16, female, with no prior experience.

Well, really it all depends. Typically, for a first year female vaulter anywhere in the 9 to 10 foot range is real good, though that can still be hard level to reach your first year. Pole vaulting is not an easy event, so just be patient with it and have a good time. I wouldnt worry a lot as to what you "should" jump. Some people will catch on quicker and peak early, some will peak later, so like i said, just have fun with it.
Champions aren't made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them-a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have last-minute stamina, they have to be a little faster, they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill. - Muhammad Ali

9- 10 feet first year for a girl is GREAT not just good...if you can get over 8 feet ur first year, ur off to a good start...now, if you have a background in gymnastics, ur have an easier time catching on to the technique stuff...but don't get to focused on height right now...work more on actually vaulting correctly and not getting any bad habits...lol
