running the meets...
hey i was just wondering how everyone else's meets get run. at my school and in my conference we usually get one official to do the scoring sheet but we run the meets as far as standards and putting up the bar. is it like this at most places? and in college do they have officials do it? just wondering...

Generally in dual meets there is only one official - or no official in the case of our meet yesterday- but for the most part we do most of the work when we host dual meets. For championship meets however, there is almost always one official to keep the score and another to put up the bar set standards and stuff. The bigger the meet, the more officials there generally are. For example at Dartmouth there were at least 5 people working the vault. It all depends.

As brownPV stated, we at our HS are the same. One official is assigned to the event, usually a coach from a school. She scored. We as atheletes do standards and bar setting.
Getting into larger meets, some students will help
Getting into invites with 10-15 schools, they will have two or 3 officials working it...
and then somtimes, when really disorganized, i get to keep score! trying to relax and you have to watched every vault from 6 foot up

"I'm not usually to focused on who I'm jumping against. The competition at the meet is more me against the crossbar."

How meets are run
College meets are usually very well run. Couple of week ends ago I worked two meets in Knoxville, TN. I think we had 7 or 8 certified officials on each of two pits. (Almost too many)
Last week I worked a meet at LVC (in PA) and I was the only official but I had an excellent student from LVC helping.
Yesterday I worked a meet at Penn State and we had two officials and two excellent student helpers.
I'm afraid the HS meets usually get "a warm body" and it is a law suit waiting to happen. JM.02

my question and i noticed you were at LVC...
Lebanon Valley College in PA. my dad went there
and has me looking at it. (i'm a sophomore) and
i know their record is like 14'6'' i think. i'm starting
to seriously consider for college, i'm also a football
player, do you know who they faced and what the
winning height was? thanks

I've run every meet with the exception of one or maybe two...I always help out if I am not because I know how tough it is. The other day I had a meet: 3 schools, 17 vaulters, boys and girls and they made me start at 5'...winning height was 13'6"...yea, not fun at all.
Fight the good fight: It's nice to be great but it's far greater to be nice.
