Apparently, the NCAA scholarship committee likes pole vaulters because two of us from Texas Tech also got the award. If you're a pole vaulter it sounds like you have a pretty solid chance at being awarded!

Yeah, that is definitely a misprint. That guy was actually like 6'2 or so. Not sure how the 6'10 got on there.

If you're really serious about vaulting in college, I would recommend going somewhere in the Big 12 or Pac 10. The SEC has a couple of good schools for the vault (Florida and Tennesee for example) but that particular conference is not really known for pole vaulting all that much. Really, the entire ...

This is a good question. I have gone to Reno the last two years as a high school vaulter and let me tell ya...it's not cheap. Depending on where you live, America West is a great airline to use. They never charge for pole transportation and I have never had any pole troubles when traveling with them...

See, I don't agree with that really. Competition isn't supposed to be easy. Being able to hit a qualifying mark and not having to "worry about it" is the easy way out. Like I said earlier, it's for people who crack under pressure. Sure people have bad days, but the good vaulters have them very few a...

My bad. I guess I didn't look at the pictures good enough. I thought those were the Junior National pics at Stanford last summer. My mistake, sorry about that.

About the whole Skipper debate. He's a great athlete, no doubt about that. But I'm gonna have to go with Chip on this one. The guy is getting TOO big. Unless something miraculous happens, I don't think the record is in too much jeopardy right now. Those pics that were posted of him earlier were from...

Here in Texas, there aren't any qualifying heights either. You have to be in the top two at district, then the top two at regionals make it to state. There are four regions, so eight vaulters make it. It's tough most of the time because on average, (excluding 1A) 2A through 5A regional competitions ...

No, I'm almost positive that he jumped 18'3". But I know it's not any higher than that.

I wonder how many v17 footers from texas went on to jump 18' or higher in college and 19 feet or higher as an eliete? We all know Jacob Davis went on to the University of Texas and cleared 19'4. Jim Davis (no relation to Jacob) was a vaulter in Texas the same year as Jacob Davis and I believe his b...
