Re: Does the Russian model represent ideal technique?

You can not reduce the US problems with hammer throw to the fact they are not contested in high school, thats too simplistic. I still maintain that the hammer throw is a better analogy. There are other techniques in the hammer throw, but only one that is based on optimal biomechanics and physics, j...

Re: Does the Russian model represent ideal technique?

The point is, you can adopt to changes in technique and training theory or you can be left behind. I agree with that statement! Although I think some of the problems in the US in the hammer and javelin is attributable to the fact that they are not contested in high school. But I am not sure I agree...

Re: Does the Russian model represent ideal technique?

So just to stir the pot a bit... which is the ONE correct technique that uses "physics" in the long jump? The hitch used by most elite men or the hang still used heavily by elite women? In the shot is it the glide or the spin? In the high jump is it the flop or the roll or the straddle or ...

Re: Worst indoor season ever ?

US have plenty of good high school vaulters, however when they are around 18-19, they move away from home, get a new coach and have to spend a lot of time on schoolwork. So the college system, which I like in many ways, give US the best educated pole vaulters, but slows them down with three to four...

Re: NCAA Sticks with Current Outdoor T&F Post-Season Format

I thought the at-large pool in the prior 4 region system helped smooth out inequities between regions. Deeper regions got more athletes which I think is fair while the top kids in each region still advance. I have always like the straight descending order list indoor because their are no weather dif...

Re: NCAA mHeptathlon - ASHTON EATON WORLD RECORD

That might be a bit backwards for Tim Bright. He made the Olympic team in the Decathlon in 1984 and then made the olympic team in the vault eight years later. Ah... 6 meters, Did you mean T-mack? Did he do a multi? You can also add LoJo who I think was SEC champion in the dec.

Re: Vtech Last Chance meet thrown out

No one has answered the question yet... why jump at 5.37 Was it a national recored for Brian and he didn't want to jump alone so VT guy jumped it as well? Or did they know it needed to go from 5.37 to 5.42 (5cm increase) and other coaches complained and wanted 5.38 cause they knew that bar would ma...

Re: Vtech Last Chance meet thrown out

.... No, there IS NO RULE in the NCAA rule book that says once you move to a smaller increment you have to stay at that increment. There is ALSO NO RULE that says the last person left can put the bar where ever the want. .... I agree with your first statement.. However, all heights are determined b...

Re: Vtech Last Chance meet thrown out

Good morning I agree with golfdane… and the rule.. How many athletes’ score for their team after qualifying at a “last chance” meet?? Last chance meets have been around, and have had some what of a purpose (where you have an injured athlete, or athletes that don’t get the chance during season to co...

Re: Vtech Last Chance meet thrown out

Oh interesting, I thought the 5.37 and 5.38 was an error in the results. I think that there is also a rule that says you can't go from smaller increments to bigger increments, so maybe part of the issue was going 5.37 - 5.38 - 5.42. Well I will still include all the marks on athletic.net, still wor...

Re: Vtech Last Chance meet thrown out

The rule reads "It is recommended that the bar be raised in increments of 15 centimeters, but never less than 5 centimeters" Because the rule starts "It is recommended..." I had seen this rule interpreted both ways. TO BE SURE of the meaning we asked the NCAA rules committee for ...
